About Me
I’m a massive fan of the radio! I present the Sunday Show on BBC Radio Bristol - 10am-2pm - come say hello, you’re most welcome.
People often ask about my route into broadcasting - so here goes...(the edited highlights);
I got my first proper radio assignments in community radio (back in the days of mini discs) - starting as a volunteer, getting a job as a Station Manager and then an Editor in Yorkshire. I picked up some awards, found my way into the BBC as a reporter and cover presenter (after several rejections and failed attempts). I rose through the ranks to get my own show presenting early Breakfast across the west country. Lots more lovely people listened in - thank you - which meant I got promoted to present the Afternoon Show (and I got a lie-in!). We took the show everywhere we could - broadcasting live from the set of Springwatch in Wales, along the Somerset coast, from the Pyramid Stage at Glasters, a tour of the west's libraries, Edinburgh Festival and some cafes and pubs along the way. It was #sociable. Crucially, people liked what they heard and the Breakfast show came my way. After a stretch of waking up way too early for Breakfast, I got the chance to present Drive - which I jumped at and really enjoyed. Fast forwarding a bit to the arrival of my baby daughter - after maternity I took on two news shows - the Wednesday night Sports Store and Saturday lunchtimes. The opportunity to get my teeth into two new programmes. Then coronavirus happened and all local BBC radio stations changed their schedules - and I moved to presenting on Sundays.
Away from the mic, I'm a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist - helping people to achieve their goals and feel better in themselves. I have my own practice - Tranceformation Hypnotherapy. In the little bit of time that's left - I see what I can grow in the garden, read loads and see friends and family.
I'm pretty sporty and like to get out and keep fit - riding my bike and walking / running. I love food and drink so it's important I get off my behind. My toughest challenges involve mountains in central Asia - including one time when the snow was so deep, it was up to the horse's stomach and I couldn't judge where he was stepping. We also got caught in a blizzard and our horses bolted and I couldn't see beyond the horse's head! One of the bonkers things about going up a mountain in Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan is the number of vodka bottles you find. It was the last thing I fancied for rehydration but you don't turn down a host's offering!
I love politics and really enjoyed studying it way back when.... My research took me to some unforgettable places. I lived with asylum seekers and refugees in France. Some of the things they shared with me made me feel very privileged - and humbled that people trusted me with their story. The way they coped had a big impact on my outlook. And I still feel humbled today when I interview people about something personal.
